From Small Beginnings to Big Dreams

Hello! I’m Yian. I want to share my journey from growing up in a tiny HDB flat to owning my dream landed home right here in Singapore. Imagine seven of us, including my dad who sometimes slept in the corridor because our home was so cramped. Those humble beginnings taught me a lot about dreams and determination.

Learning the Ropes with My First Home

My adventure in the property world started in 1996 when I bought my first home for $226,000 right before the Asian financial crisis. Even though prices dropped and I eventually sold it at a loss, that didn’t stop me. In fact, it was just the beginning. I learned that the property market can be unpredictable, but it also holds opportunities if you’re willing to stick it out.

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

In 2006, life threw me a curveball. I had my second child and decided to move closer to my mom, who helped take care of my kids. This meant selling my first home at a loss. But every challenge has a silver lining. By 2010, after going through a divorce, I managed an HDB flat on my own and rented it out for a nice monthly income of $2,600. Not bad, right?

Making Bold Moves

Fast forward to 2015, I spotted a golden opportunity with North Park Residences, a new development with great potential. Despite enjoying a steady rental income from my HDB flat, I decided to take a risk and go for it. I sold my HDB flat, which had appreciated in value, and bought a three-bedroom unit in North Park. And guess what? That decision paid off big time—my new home’s value shot up by nearly $400,000 in just four years!

Keeping the Momentum

Encouraged by my success at North Park, I didn’t stop there. In 2019, I discovered another promising property, Parc Esta. It was offering a great deal, especially for larger four-bedroom units which were scarce in the area. I sold my North Park unit, pocketed the profits, and invested in a four-bedroom at Parc Esta. Three years later, I sold it for a profit of over $500,000!

Achieving the Dream

All these strategic investments helped me accumulate over $1 million in profits over seven years. And finally, I used that to buy my first landed dream home. My journey from a small flat to a spacious landed property shows that with the right moves and a bit of courage, anyone can make their property dreams come true.
